Dulverton Pupils Take on the Exmoor Youth Challenge 2025
We are extremely proud of the pupils from Dulverton Junior School who took part in this year’s Exmoor Youth Challenge on Saturday 3rd May. Representing the school were three full teams, as well as two additional pupils who joined with others to complete the route as part of a separate team.
This well-established event welcomed 136 Junior and 5 Senior teams, involving over 550 children from 58 schools and organisations, making it one of the largest and most high-profile youth events in the region.
Participants undertook a 16.8-mile timed walk, navigating rough tracks and hilly Exmoor terrain. Conditions on the day were warm and clear—ideal for visibility, but particularly challenging given the heat and intensity of the walk. Despite this, all our pupils completed the course in 5 hours and 51 minutes, demonstrating not only endurance and resilience, but also teamwork and a strong sense of achievement.
We extend our sincere thanks to Mr Swateridge, Mrs Huntley, and Mr Drummond, as well as the wider team of staff and parents who supported the children through a structured programme of training walks and preparation. Their commitment ensured the pupils were both physically and mentally ready for this memorable experience.
We are also incredibly grateful to Friends of Dulverton Schools (FODS), who provided practical support and raised over £1,300 on the day—a testament to the strength of our school community.
Congratulations to all who took part. This event not only promotes outdoor learning and personal challenge, but also highlights the positive impact of collaboration between school, family, and community.
