Embracing Diversity & Inclusion: Fostering Respect and Unity through British Values and Christian Principles

At the Moorland Federation, we wholeheartedly believe that our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of Christian and British values is an integral part of our educational approach. We strive to create an environment where every student feels valued, respected, and supported, regardless of their background, beliefs, or culture.

To ensure that our students are well-prepared for life in modern Britain, we embed British values throughout all aspects of school life. Our curriculum includes daily lessons, events, student leadership opportunities, values and vision statements, awards, and community assemblies that all encompass British values. Our termly themes combine British values with Social, Moral, Spiritual, and Cultural learning (SMSC), Religious Education, and Citizenship, creating a well-rounded curriculum that nurtures students' understanding of their place in society.

Our school leaders and governors are committed to making British values a core focus of our school development and review process, always linking it to safeguarding. We believe that by promoting values such as democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance for different faiths and beliefs, we are helping our students become valuable and well-rounded members of society.

As Lord Nash said, "We want every school to promote the basic British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs. This ensures young people understand the importance of respect and leave school fully prepared for life in modern Britain."

Through our commitment to diversity and inclusion, we encourage our students to:

  • Understand how citizens can influence decision-making through the democratic process
  • Recognize that the freedom to hold other faiths and beliefs is protected by law
  • Accept and tolerate people with different faiths or beliefs (or none), without prejudice or discrimination
  • Understand the importance of identifying and combating discrimination

At our Moorland Federation Schools, we also promote democracy by electing our own school parliaments, who work closely with school leaders and staff to make important decisions. Our pupil parliament leads regular Pupil Voice assemblies or worships, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to contribute to the decision-making and planning process.

By fostering an inclusive environment and promoting British values, we are not only preparing our students for life in modern Britain but also creating a school community that celebrates diversity, respects differences, and unites under shared values.
