A proactive commitment to tackling burnout and building a sustainable, supportive culture for staff across the Moorland Federation

The Moorland Federation has formally signed up to the Burnout Awareness Charter through Includability, reinforcing its commitment to supporting staff wellbeing and proactively addressing burnout across its schools.

The Burnout Awareness Charter is a global initiative designed to help organisations understand, recognise and prevent burnout before it reaches crisis point. It provides practical training, resources and a supportive community to help leaders and staff build healthier, more sustainable working environments.

By signing the Charter, the Moorland Federation is committing to raising awareness of burnout, creating psychologically safe spaces for staff to talk openly, and embedding a culture where wellbeing is prioritised alongside performance. The Charter also supports organisations to develop trained “Burnout Awareness Champions” who can help identify early signs of stress and support colleagues effectively.

The Federation’s decision comes at a time when the education sector continues to face significant pressures. According to the Teacher Wellbeing Index 2025, 86% of school leaders and 76% of teachers are stressed. This level of sustained pressure is contributing to increased absence, challenges with staff retention and, ultimately, impacts on pupils’ ability to learn and thrive.

Recognising these challenges, the Moorland Federation is taking a proactive approach, moving beyond reactive support to build a culture that actively prevents burnout and supports long-term staff wellbeing.

Lizi Pravato, Chief Operations Officer for the Moorland Federation and qualified Burnout Awareness First Aider, said:

“The reality of the current education landscape means that many staff are working under sustained pressure. Signing up to the Burnout Awareness Charter is an important step in recognising that and taking meaningful, proactive action. This is about creating a culture where people feel supported, where conversations around wellbeing are normalised, and where we equip our teams with the knowledge and tools to recognise and respond to burnout early. Ultimately, by supporting our staff, we are also strengthening the experience and outcomes for our children.”

Through its involvement with Includability, the Moorland Federation will have access to a range of expert-led training, practical resources and a wider professional community focused on improving workplace culture and wellbeing. The Charter complements existing wellbeing initiatives, helping to strengthen and embed a consistent, sustainable approach across the organisation.

The Moorland Federation continues to place people at the heart of its strategy, recognising that a supported, valued and resilient workforce is essential to delivering high-quality education and enabling every child to flourish.
