Our Commitment

Every member of our team - from our teaching staff to our volunteers - is deeply committed to maintaining an environment where children feel secure, are encouraged to express themselves, and are listened to.

Staff Responsibilities

All our staff members and volunteers have a responsibility to be vigilant of any issues related to the safety and welfare of our students. They are duty-bound to report any concerns, no matter how small they might seem.

Clear Policies and Regular Training

At the Moorland Federation, we have clear and detailed Safeguarding Policies in place, along with a Code of Conduct for all staff and volunteers. This is coupled with our Whistle Blowing policy which is designed to encourage and enable staff to voice concerns in a confidential and safe environment.

Ongoing Education

Our staff and volunteers undertake regular professional training to ensure they are fully equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively keep our children safe. This includes, but is not limited to, an annually updated training and a commitment to understanding key documents such as 'Keeping Children Safe in Education Part 1'.

Robust Recruitment Processes

We take the utmost care when recruiting new members to our team. We have specially trained interviewers who are well-versed in safer recruitment practices, ensuring our procedures are robust and comprehensive.

Rigorous Checks and Verification

Our Single Central Record is regularly monitored by senior staff and trained governors. References for potential staff members are requested both by telephone and in writing to be fully verified. Comprehensive safeguarding checks, including enhanced disclosure checks and overseas checks, are conducted as detailed in the KCSIE documents.

At the Moorland Federation, safeguarding is not just a policy - it is at the heart of everything we do. If you have any questions or need more information, please reach out to us. Together, we can ensure our children thrive in a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment.

If you are concerned that a child or adult may be at risk or that you are struggling looking after your child please phone Somerset Direct, 0300 123 2224, who will be able to talk through your concerns with you. Alternatively, you can report a concern to our safeguarding team.
