Spiritual, Moral, Social & Cultural Development in Moorland Federation Schools

Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at Parish and Diocesan level.

At the Moorland Federation, we take pride in the wholesome spiritual development of our pupils. Our nurturing environment imbues respectfulness, perseverance, and a strong moral compass, leading our students to become responsible, caring citizens of the future.

Spiritual, Moral, Social & Cultural Development

At the core of our teaching philosophy is a commitment to the Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural development of each child. In a rapidly changing world, it is vital that our students are prepared to navigate their personal and professional lives with kindness, integrity, and resilience.

Our Foundation in Christian Values

While many of our schools are Church of England First Schools, all Federation schools – both secular and religious – share a common aim: to serve our community with the highest quality education. Irrespective of our schools' religious affiliations, we believe that the essence of Christian values, like kindness, respect, and perseverance, have universal applicability.

These values shape our approach to education, promoting understanding of faith's significance and encouraging all students to reflect on their beliefs and values. To facilitate this, we follow the locally agreed Somerset RE syllabus, "Awareness, Mystery, and Value."

Daily Acts of Collective Worship or Assemblies

We conduct a daily act of collective worship that reflects Christian tradition, involving all our students. These acts not only nurture spiritual development but also contribute significantly to each pupil's Religious Education.

For our Community school, our daily assembly will focus our British values and the impact we can have on our community & environment.
These collective sessions foster a sense of community within all our students and a shared understanding of the values we hold dear.

Partnership with Local Clergy

We enjoy a close relationship with our local clergy, who are integral to our schools' spiritual foundation. Regular church visits, both for community events and religious services, ensure our students have a connection with the broader Christian community. Our local Reverends also enrich our wider curriculum, sharing wisdom, stories, and teachings that inspire our students.

Regardless of the diverse backgrounds and beliefs our students may have, our focus remains the same: to instill in each child the values of respect, perseverance, and compassion. We strive to nurture their spiritual development, so they grow into responsible, thoughtful, and caring adults who contribute positively to society.
