At the Moorland Federation, we recognise and value the importance of the pupil voice in shaping our learning community.

Our Student Parliament provides an outstanding platform for our students to express their views, impact decisions, and take on leadership roles within the school community.

Structure of Our Student Parliament

Our Student Parliament consists of representatives from each class: two students from every class from Reception to Year 3 and four students from our Year 4 class. Each representative is elected by their classmates in a fair and democratic process, reflecting our values of inclusivity and equal representation. In addition, we also have a Head Boy, Head Girl, and Deputies, whose appointment is the result of voting by the entire school community.

Regular Meetings and Discussions

Our student parliamentarians meet with Mr James at least once every half term. These meetings serve as an avenue for the students to express their views, discuss key issues, and contribute towards decision-making at our school. Occasionally, they are called to 'extraordinary' meetings when there is an urgent issue that needs immediate discussion.

Impactful Projects Led by the Student Parliament

One of the noteworthy projects led by our Student Parliament includes the development of our playground. They took charge, assessed the needs, and led the initiative to enhance the playground facilities, toys, and games. Their leadership and active participation truly enhanced the outdoor experience for all students.

Ongoing Initiatives

The Student Parliament is currently focusing on refining our school rules. They are working towards making the rules more high-profile, memorable, and ensuring that they reflect the values and expectations of our entire student body. The aim is to ensure every student has a voice and can contribute to this important aspect of school life.

Share Your Ideas

We encourage students to share their ideas and suggestions, as every contribution matters in making our school a better place. To facilitate this, we have set up a 'good ideas box' outside the Year 4 class where students can drop in their suggestions. Let's shape our school together with your brilliant ideas!

Our Student Parliament embodies our dedication to instilling leadership skills and encouraging active participation in school life. This initiative reflects our overall goal of delivering a private school education in a public setting, allowing every student to contribute and thrive in our community.
